Los Sabandeños, main course of the program of the municipal celebrations of Tías

The municipality of Tías celebrates this week its patron saint festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas with a full program of concerts, performances of humor and magic, folklore, sporting events and popular traditions.

The proclamation will be this Thursday, January 24, at 20:30 hours inside the church of La Candelaria. The well-known folklorist Juan Manuel González Fontes (Nito), promoter of the Ranches of Pascua de Tías and member of the group El Pavón, will be this 2019 the official preacher of the patron saint festivities of Tías, which will last until Sunday, February 3, day of San Blas. The festivity of La Candelaria will be on Saturday, February 2.

The Sabandeños in the Terrero de Lucha de Tías

The outstanding Canarian group Los Sabandeños will perform in the fight area Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez, this Friday, January 25, at 8:30 p.m. Together with Los Sabandeños there will be a selection of the most outstanding soloists of the Island. These folkloric performances will be recorded by the Noche de Taifas program, for later broadcast on the Canary TV.

The rest of the program

Coinciding with the centenary of the tragedy of Valbanera, where several children of Tías and Lanzarote are traveling, a conference on this tragedy will be offered by Julio González Padrón, co-author of the centennial book Valbanera. The talk will be this Saturday, January 26, at 7:00 pm, in the Indieras room, in Tías.

More than 40 different proposals in these almost two weeks of parties where sport, folklore, music, traditions and shows are combined. On Tuesday night, January 29, the Municipal Theater of Tías will host the magic show with the outstanding Mago Joel, figure of national projection for his discovery in a successful program on Tele 5.

The night of Friday, February 1, the eve of the festivity of La Candelaria, will be the performance of the Canary humorist Kike Pérez just before the big fireworks castle. Perez’s performance will be in the tent installed in the Plaza de La Candelaria, next to the church, on a day where ‘frying’ will be organized one of the traditions rooted in the programming of these festivities.

Along with the two days of processions where the images of La Candelaria and San Blas, respectively, on February 2 and 3, the festivities will conclude next Sunday, day 3 with a night dedicated to the Canarian timple with the performances of the figures outstanding of the Canary Islands in the interpretation of this musical instrument linked to music and the history of the Canary Islands. Domingo Rodríguez, Colorao, Fabiola Socas, or Ciro Corujo, from Lanzarote, will be some of the stars that will perform on this night of timples in an event promoted, within the festivities, by the Guágaro Musical Cultural Association.

The Pilgrimage of La Candelaria

The second edition of the popular pilgrimage in honor of La Candelaria will be this Sunday, January 27, starting at 12 noon. The pilgrims, groups and floats, will leave from the hermitage of San Antonio, in the Central Avenue of Tías, towards the zone of The Slopes where the church of the patroness of Tías is located.
