[Hiking] Excursion to Pico Partido

Pico Partido is a Geological Interest Site (LIG in its acronym in spanish)located within the Parque Natural de los Volcanes. The main interest that this LIG has is of volcanological type. In addition, its geomorphological and tectonic characteristics arouse interest in experts. Its high landscape and historical value make this LIG an important place of educational and biological value.

In the eruption that developed during the years 1730 and 1736, one of the most active eruptive action points was what we now know as the volcanic area of ​​Pico Partido. It accumulated a large number of eruptive centers per square kilometer throughout the eruption. Within its morphology stands out the wonderful lava channel generated by the rapid drainage of a lava lake. During the route you can travel this channel both outside and inside and enjoy with its intricate forms.

Its characteristic irregular shape was given by the superposition and juxtaposition of cones and craters that were formed in different phases and also with different eruptive styles, which determined that the eruptive group acquired great height. Pico Partido owns one of the most spectacular olivine path in the Canary Islands.

How to get

The easiest way to get there is to go to the town of Mancha Blanca. Once in the village you have to take the LZ-67 for five kilometers. From there, you will find Pico Partido on the left. Although the eruption is visible from before, it can be difficult to determine where to park the car. The trick is to wait for the Devil designed by César Manrique, which determines the start of the Parque Natural de los Volcanes At his side there is a small parking place where you can leave the car. When crossing the road there is a small path of volcanic stones that leads to Pico Partido.
