El Almacén seeks to reconnect with the carnival spirit of yesteryear

With the aim of recovering the traditional carnival spirit registered since its inception in El Almacén during the festivities organized by César Manrique during the decades of the 70s and 80s of the last century, a program of activities linked to the commemorative carnestolendas also from the ‘Centenario Manrique100’.

From March 1 to 4, the CIC Bar and Patio El Almacén will change its usual decoration during this time for a new artistic setting, specially designed by the artist, writer and exhibition curator Amelia Álvarez de Mesa, who is inspired by the pieces and mural interventions by the artist César Manrique.

All the artistic pieces will be made with waste materials from works, waste and with what is popularly known as the ‘jallos’, objects found on the shores of Lanzarote, brought by the sea.

Likewise, a tribute will also be paid to Mrs. Juana Manrique Cabrera, sister of the artist César Manrique, known for being a singular and beloved character of the Arrecife carnival that was characterized by its lively performances with costumes and characterizations very celebrated in the carnival festivals of the past. For this reason, she will be named “Sponsor of Carnival Honor of El Almacen 2019”.

El Almacén Bar will be enlivened by a musical program that will be performed by local DJs and the group “Los Magéticos”. Here the complete program:
