César Manrique awarded with the medal of honor of the University of La Laguna

 In Canary Islands, News

he governing council of the University of La Laguna has agreed to grant the institution’s Medal of Honor to the artist César Manrique. The concession is made at the proposal of the rector, Rosa Aguilar, and aims to “express recognition to individuals or entities, national or foreign, who have an internationally recognized distinction.”

The award of this medal coincides with the celebration of the centenary of the birth of César Manrique. We want to highlight the footprint of the Lanzarote artist in the academic institution, as two large large-format murals located in the Naval, Machinery and Naval Radioelectronics Section bear his signature.

In addition, the institution has a cultural chair dedicated to his work, whose director, Professor of Art History Francisco Galante, is the one who has prepared the report on the candidacy for the medal.
